The 2026 Annual Picnic and Awards Ceremony will be held at 879 Megalong Rd (Megalong Valley Community Hall).
What to Expect
11:30am The Bus Arrives at Megalong Valley Community Hall, Check-in and gift giveaway
12:00pm Introduction & Lunch
13:00pm Activities: Kids bushcraft corner, Bushcare stalls, Photo competition voting
14:00pm Welcome to Country & Awards Ceremony revealing who will be this years’ Bushcare Legend and awarding the Hard Yakka, Master, Special Awards, Landcare Legend and Junior Bushcare awards. We will also honor our Bushcare and Landcare groups who have an anniversary by awarding 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 year service awards. Photo competition winner announcement.

The Bushcare Picnic will utilise ‘Wallace’ the Mobile Wash Trailer to contribute to the BMCC Towards Zero Waste Events program. All cups, plates and cutlery at the Picnic will be reusable to help reduce event waste and support sustainable community events.
Photo Competition
During the picnic this year, the Bushcare team will be running a photo competition.
Theme: Natural environment (examples: wildlife, nature, geography, Bushcare activities etc)
Guidelines: Photos must have been taken within 12 months of the submission time. The photos must have been taken within the Blue Mountains. While there are no specific guidelines for dimensions, resolution or style, photos will be displayed during the picnic in an A3 poster format. Its recommended to have high resolution photo submissions. 1 photo entry per person. Submissions close Friday the 16th of October.
How to submit photos: please send your photo entries to bushcare@bmcc.nsw.gov.au with a file of your photo (PNG., JPEG., JPG. etc.), your name, when and where the photo was taken and a short description, (maximum of 30 words). Optionally also include the name of your regular Bushcare group.
Bushcare Calendar Opt-in: When submitting photos, you can choose to have them considered for a future Bushcare-themed calendar. Please include a note with your photo submission if you would like your images to be featured.
Voting instructions: much like our previous years cake competition, photos will be displayed during the picnic for people to vote on during the picnic day. The winner of the competition will be announced during the end of the picnic awards ceremony.
Bushcare Bus
The bus will be running this year to transport those who need a lift. If you would like a lift, please book your place on the bus when you RSVP by clicking “Count me in” and completing the relevant details.

Getting There Without the Bus
- Turn off the Great Western Highway in Blackheath at Bundarra St
- Turn left onto Station St and follow the road down through the bends
- Turn right onto Shipley Rd. Follow Shipley Rd for roughly 2kms
- Turn left onto Megalong Rd, which will take you down into Megalong valley.
- Turn off to the Megalong Valley Community Hall at 879 Megalong Rd.
