Walks & Talks
Sean Dooley, Birdlife Australia – Birding Basics
Learn the techniques that will help you spot and identify birds as you walk around the Botanic Gardens with one of Australia’s leading birders.
Dr John Martin, Royal Botanic Garden – Mobility and foraging behaviour: Cockies, Ibis & Flying-foxes
As we walk around the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney we’ll discuss the ecology of three of our urban neighbours. All three have changed their behaviour and today are common in the Sydney region, this wasn’t always the case. As recently as the 1980’s all three species were occasional or seasonal visitors to the Sydney region. However, things have changed both within and outside of the Sydney region and as a consequence Sulphur-crested cockatoos, Australian white ibis and Grey-headed flying-foxes have adapted and changed their behaviour.
Wildlife in the City – Sophie Golding, Urban Ecologist City of Sydney (indoor presentation)
The City of Sydney has run two annual spring bird surveys since 2013 which was instigated by the bushcare volunteer group: the Glebe Blue Wren Society. Sophie Golding, the City’s Urban Ecology Coordinator will discuss the partnerships, lessons learnt and where they hope to go with the project.
Also, hear from other bushcarers about their wildlife projects, Regional Landcare Award winners announced and much more!
