Yellomundee Aboriginal Bushcare Group Weed control at Shaws Farm site
Sunday 27 July, 2014 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
In June the Yellomundee Aboriginal Bushcare group held a Firesticks pilot workshop at Shaws Farm, where traditional owners from Northern Queensland were sharing their knowledge of these practices with local traditional owners. They did 5 small mosaic cool burns including an area where we spread the piles of dead lantana as fuel for the burn. At this workday we will get the chance to see what has happened on these sites and also help prepare another area by spreading the lantana piles. Whilst this site is highly degraded I think it is a great landcare site as you can see aboriginal artefacts scattered around this old quarry site.
