SUMMARY:Weaving with Weeds
DESCRIPTION:We have a great collection of Honeysuckle at the Planetary Health Site which used to be Katoomba Golf Club. We are going to harvest some weeds to make into a basket for each participant to take home. We will be doing a random weave which is the most easiest form of weaving. You will leave the morning with a wreath base\, or a basket and how to find some weeds in the future to start your weaving practice. We will be pausing half way through the session for a hot drink\, or two. \n\n\n\nOne option of basket if you like using raffia and a needle to sew. This basket is made from Kikuyu\, Jasmine\, and New Zealand Flax.\n\n\n\nBring your own thermos filled with hot water and your own cup and some food to share. Book in below so I can contact you for the location to meet up.

SUMMARY:Birds and Bees of Bushcare
DESCRIPTION:This training session is all about working with the fauna on your site. This is one of the three modules from the Bushcare Boosters training sessions. The last one\, Bushcare the Big Picture that was held at Lawson was well received by all that came along. \nThe training is aimed at Bushcare/Landcare volunteers who have been working on their sites for a while but would like to deepen their knowledge of fauna on their sites. \nWe will start the day examining sandtraps and other mechanisms to monitor what fauna is present and then talk through the tracks and scats from examples and talk about what you are likely to encounter on your sites. \nWe will also discuss different habitat structures and how we can manage them on your sites. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Lower Mountains Vegetation Communities Tour
DESCRIPTION:Jill Dark \nThere are 31 Significant Vegetation communities that are recognised across the Blue Mountains Local Government Area (LGA).  These ‘environmentally sensitive’ vegetation communities are listed in Schedule 5 of LEP2005\, Schedule 3 of LEP 1991\, and (hopefully) Schedule 6 of the DLEP 2014. They are therefore commonly referred to as’ Scheduled’ Vegetation Communities. \nThese communities have been defined as ‘significant’ if they satisfy one or more of the following criteria: \n\nlisted\, or proposed for listing\, in the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Commonwealth);\nlisted\, or proposed for listing\, in Schedule 1 or 2 of the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 (NSW);\nrare and/or restricted distribution within the City of Blue Mountains;\npoorly or not represented within the Blue Mountains National Park;\nif they protect hydrological functions; and/or\nhabitat for rare\, threatened or ultra-endemic fauna or flora species.\n\nMany of these Scheduled vegetation communities are found in the lower Blue Mountains\, where soils have a particular character that makes them uncommon in the LGA. \nThe training day will introduce participants to some of the characteristics that define these communities\, and will look at some of the flora species which are considered to be ‘diagnostic’ of their presence. We’ll also look at the threats they face\, and some of the specific challenges they present to BMCC land managers and volunteers working on site. \nPlease RSVP to the bushcare office 4780 5623 or bushcare@bmcc.nsw.gov.au \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
