1999 - Site strategies developed as part of Bushcare Program

Bushcare started drawing up site strategies for some of the sites, later on many more were developed.

Article from the Autumn Gecko 99

Under the Urban Runoff Control Program (URCP), many of the bushcare sites in the Blue Mountains area are to have Bushland Site Strategies written to assist in the future planning and management of works on site.

The primary purpose of the site strategies is to assess the current status of the bushland, quantify the level of impacts on the bushland, such as stormwater and weed infestation, and to develop a detailed work plan to manage and restore the bushland.

There are 14 sites that are to have a site strategy written for them these include:

 Jackson Park
 North Lawson
 Valley of the Waters
 Lindeman Road
 Wentworth Falls Lake/ Bass Road
 Lomatia Park
 North Katoomba
 Sublime Point
 Pippas Pass
 Leura park
 Redgum Park – This is the map image in this story
 Centenary Reserve
 Sutton Park
 Summer Hayes Park

It is anticipated that over the next 14 months a site strategy will be written for all these sites. Soren Mortensen is working extra hours to complete these strategies and will be working with the Bushcare groups to develop restoration strategies for their site.

Blue Mountains City Council will be working in co-operation with National Parks and Wildlife Service Bushcare to develop a number of the site strategies. Eric Mahony, Pest Species Management Officer, National Parks and Wildlife Service has recently been appointed to develop a Bushcare Strategy for National Parks.

Nathan Summers and Richard Lee also prepared some strategies under this program.
